In 2017, Ian hopes to win back the World Match Racing Tour Title and extend his record to 7 World Championship wins. To do this will require mastering the M32 catamaran which will be the boat type for the World Match Racing Tour for the foreseeable future.


The ISAF World Match Racing Tour is a global Tour of match racing events sanctioned by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) with “Special Event” status.


In 2017, the World Tour will offer over US$2million in prize money with points awarded at each event towards qualification for the final event in China where the winner will be crowned the “ISAF Match Racing World Champion”.


Events take place in identically supplied racing yachts to place the focus on team work and skill. Racing takes place close to the shore for the general public to follow the races as virtual on-the-water stadia. Media and television highlights coverage reaches over 180 countries around the world.

In 2017, Ian will also compete in the M32 Scandinavian Series in order to get familiar with the M32 catamarans used on the Tour. the schedule for that is:

30 August – 2 September, Aarhus

13 – 16 September, Stockholm

Ian will also compete at the M32 Fleet Racing World Championships in Marstrand, Sweden, from 12 – 15 July.
